My name is Jen and I am a freelance illustrator/cartoonist located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Most of my work is influenced by Nouveau art, vintage art posters, Impressionism, Japanese graphic novels and calligraphy. My name is Jen and I am a freelance illustrator/cartoonist located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Most of my work is influenced by Nouveau art, vintage art posters, Impressionism, Japanese graphic novels and calligraphy. I have been drawing since I was about three or four years old and other than a few art classes in high school and college, I am entirely self taught. My parents were always impressed with my work (of course) and even when my mother was dying of cancer, she still wanted to see what I was currently drawing in my notepad. For a decade afterward, my father continued to push me to pursue art until he too passed away a few years ago.
Now I do art for myself, not for my parents, not for my friends, and not for school. I would like for people to see my work and take something away from it, whether it's a new idea, a new perspective, or a new appreciation for a style that they never considered before. My writing is inspired by many different styles such as stream-of-consciousness or understatement. Topics that usually pop up in my work are gender, feminism, humanitarianism, etc. I also try to aspire to zen and Taoism and use their teachings to keep me going. I hope you enjoy my work.
